The smell of the sea air filled Connor's lungs with every breath that he took. Angel's young son was on patrol, looking for anything that went bump in the night. Of course he knew that he would probably get into a situation where he would be outnumbered but just like his father, Connor was always ready for a challenge even if that meant his life was hanging in the balance. Making his way around the shipment of crates, the docks seemed rather quiet. Too quiet? Whatever the case was his senses began to kick in, he noticed the smell of death, of cigarette smoke was near, just around the corner of a crate. Connor had a stake tucked in the back of his pants, resting on his belt line. He also had in his hand a battle axe that he "borrowed" from his dad's weapon cabinet. Connor loved weapons, anything he could get his hands on he used. So if his dad were to find out that he took it, he would be in serious trouble. Walking up to the small gang of vamps, with axe in full grasp he spoke. [/ul] The deep growls grew deep inside the vampire's throats. As they began to form a circle almost like a barrier around him, Connor raised the axe and was ready for a fight. Now there were only five or six vamps, nothing he couldn't handle. What seemed like hours for the fighting to begin flashed by in a moment or so. Connor had dusted every vamp by chopping them either in half or decapitating them. Vampire dust began to fall all around him, his head tilted towards the concrete floor, his eyes gazing up, never leaving his target's position. There was one vampire left, the vampire ran full throttle towards him, drop kicking him in the chest, Connor flew back dropping the axe. The axe landed on the edge of the dock, almost went in the water but luckily for Connor, it had been stopped by the fencing around the pier. Connor quickly leaped onto his feet and slowly grabbed the stake that he had brought earlier. Taking it out, exposing it to the vampire the vampire growled and ran again towards Connor. It leaped again trying to tackle Connor but with his quick thinking he knelled down stuck the stake in the air and dusted the vampire as it leaped over him. The vampire exploded into dust over Connor. He got up and walked over towards the axe. Beside the axe was a cigarette, still smoking and hadn't been touched completely. Connor grabbed both the axe and the cigarette, he examined the cigarette and stuck it in his mouth, taking a puff but quickly threw it over the side of the pier. Coughing and trying to catch his breath from the smoke he turned around and saw a dark figure lurking in the shadows. As it came into the light he felt a sign of relief but at the same time a sign of "Holy Shit I'm In Trouble!".

Angel stopped skulking in the shadows and stepped into the light. He could faintly see smoke, swirling in the air near Connor. The vampire had seen the whole thing, as he'd been lurking but he didn't intervene because Connor didn't need his help, he was a super being and a reckless one if that. Angel stuffed his hands into his pockets and took a couple of steps closer so that he was face to face with his son.
He could smell the smoke from the cigeratte, Connor had took a drag on. Angel's face crinkled in disgust. Smoking was a filthy habit and he was annoyed that Connor had even considered trying a cigarette, let alone actually smoking one. The vampire was also annoyed that his son had nearly lost his favourite battle axe, and he was even more annoyed that he had took it without permission. Angel could feel a parental rant coming on, but he was going to try his best to not let loose on his boy.
"Connor, what the hell do you think you're doing?" Uh-oh, too late! "Coming out here, without letting anyone know where you're going. Experimenting with smoking, those things can kill you, and it's a filthy habit that's easily picked up. And did I forget to mention that you could have been killed? liking a challange is fine, but six on one is stupid Connor, even for you."
Angel stuffed his hands in his pockets, stifling a growl of anger as he did so. He loved his son, he really did, but sometimes he could be an idiot. His eyes narrowed as he waited to hear what Connor had to say in response.

"Oh here we go", he thought. The father, son lecture again about running off and saving the world. Couldn't Angel just appreciate what Connor was doing, I mean after all that they've been through, Angel could at least thank him for taking out a gang of vampires. You know, doing some good in the world but instead Angel only cares about his "little" boy staying safe. Connor had only been in this dimension for four years but he is still Twenty One, he's old enough to drink and yet he can't go out and kill a few vampires? Of course he knew the dangers that would of happened if he were to be caught off guard but growing up in a hell dimension, Connor was pretty well aware of that, the beasts called him "The Destroyer", which was what he was, a Destroyer. Connor did feel somewhat nervous, he had taken his father's favorite axe with him. Hell, he even picked up a cigarette and took a puff. Clearly he was going to get yelled at but hey, Connor was always getting yelled at. [/ul] Connor always felt like Angel was trying to keep him from the world, trying to shut him out from everyone, keeping him locked somewhere so nobody could harm him. Connor grasped the battle axe tighter, letting it dangle from his hand that rested beside his body. Connor continued to cough from the puff of cigarette smoke that he inhaled. He looked at Angel and then moved his eyes to the ground and continued. [/ul] The son continued to look at the ground, he didn't want to see the look on his father's face, being in trouble was all that he could handle right now.

"I care, Connor. I'm proud to call you my son. You're an amazing fighter, you're skillful, you're a lot of things. But none of that's important. What's important is I'm your father and I care, might not always seem that way but I do, Connor"
The vampire felt regretful that he had blown up at his son. He was never an expert at handling these sorts of situations. Connor was his weakness, he couldn't bare anything bad happening to his son ever again. Every day he still felt pangs of guilt for not being able to give him a real childhood, not being able to do the little things with his son, like teaching him how to ride a bike, taking him to his first hockey game.
Instead the cold, harsh reality was that his son was a natural born killer. On the outside he looked like an average twenty one year old boy, he wasn't heavily muscled, and his face still had a certain boyish charm to it, he looked innocent, sweet. But it was all a masquerade, his son had been brought up in a hell dimension, he'd been taught how to fight from a young age, he'd seen more than he should of. Angel sighed, deeply wishing Connor's life was different, that his life was different. He wished they could be a normal family.
Angel stepped to the side and placed a large hand on Connor's back, patting it gently to help hm cough and clear out his lungs as best he could. He was disapointed in Connor, and he knew that his son knew that. But the vampire had to be firm with the boy, he needed guidnace, twenty one or not, to Angel he would always be his boy.
"Just keep coughing, okay? And promise me you wont do it ever again"

[/ul] Connor didn't want to fight with his dad, he didn't want to do anything except go home. Connor knew that Angel was loving and caring, I mean Connor was the only son that Angel had, how could he not love him? Connor's thoughts were all over the place, his emotions were cluttered, would Angel be mad? Would he be willing to forgive Connor? What would he say? Connor didn't want to get into the whole "Everyone doesn't understand and nobody knows what it's like" kinda deal. He's been through it loads of times. Connor felt his father's hand on his shoulder. He knew that Angel cared for him. Not knowing what to say next he looked at his dad and smirked a little. [/ul]

Angel nodded in response to Connor's question. As he did so, an idea slipped into his mind. He swifty grabbed the axe off Connor who was off guard from their 'moment' and then he took a small knife out of his pocket. Angel knicked at the handle until he had carved a small 'C' into the wooden handle, he then tucked the knife back into his pocket and handed his son the axe.
"It's yours now, take good care of it"
The vampire knew his son had been eyeing up his battle axe ever since the day he had brought it home after claiming it his own after a fight with a Fyral demon. Angel rubbed the back of his neck with a large hand, feeling a little awkward about the way they had just bonded.
"Before we go the hotel, how 'bout you make the kill count a grand total of seven this evening. I spotted one more vamp on my way down here. I tracked him, I think he might have something to do with intercepting a shipment"

Connor's face lit up. He could tell that Angel was a little hesitant about giving the axe to him but he knew that Angel would be proud. Slay one more vampire? No problem! Connor held the axe with cautiousness, approaching the shipping crate, he slowly lurked beside it. At the corner of it he turned his head back towards Angel. Angel smiled which gave Connor a reassuring sign that he knew his son could take this. The son poked his head out from the crate and saw nothing. It was nothing but space between the two buildings with shadows. Connor crept into the shadows with the axe in hand. All of a sudden he turned around as the vampire leaped down from the top of the crate. Turning around quickly, he raised the axe and decapitated the vampire. As it burst into dust, Connor lowered the axe and looked at Angel who was standing, now in front of him with his arms crossed and smiling. Connor cleared his throat and got excited. [/ul] Connor was rather excited, he had done some spectacular things before but seeing the look on Angel's face he knew that he made his dad proud. Maybe there was hope for the two of them yet.

Angel nodded and did an axe swinging gesture, grinning as he did so. He was impressed, Connor had a lot of skill, much like his old man, the brooding vampire thought to himself. Angel cherished moments like these, okay so they weren't exactly typical father, son bonding moments. But it was their way of relating to one another. They were fighters, champions.
"It was cool. We can head back now"
The vampire patted Connor's shoulder, giving him a little bit more extra praise, he was also still apologizing for earlier, but he had to be firm with his son. If he didn't teach him the right ways to live who would. Angel had to set an example, and hopefully Connor would follow in his footsteps, but he was still young. Which ocassionally lead to him being reckless.
Angel turned on his heels and began walked along the docks with his son. At least Connor hadn't noted the fact he had been lurking around, spying on him, sort of. Sometimes he could be over-protective but it wasn't a bad thing.
